Pakoras: A Delicious Indian Snack
Pakoras are a popular Indian snack made with a variety of vegetables that are coated in a spiced batter and then deep-fried until crispy. They are perfect as an appetizer or as a snack, and are easy to make at home. Here's how to make pakoras:
Ingredients:
1 cup besan (gram flour)
1/4 cup rice flour
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup water
2 cups of vegetables of your choice (such as onions, potatoes, cauliflower, eggplant, spinach, or peppers)
Oil for frying
Directions:
In a large bowl, mix together the besan, rice flour, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, baking soda, and salt.
Slowly add water to the mixture, stirring constantly until you have a smooth batter with a thick consistency.
Wash and cut the vegetables into small pieces, about 1 inch in size.
Add the vegetables to the batter and mix well, making sure that all of the vegetables are coated with the batter.
Heat the oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium-high heat.
Once the oil is hot, take a small spoonful of the vegetable batter and drop it into the oil. Repeat until you have several pakoras frying in the oil at once, but be careful not to overcrowd the pan.
Fry the pakoras for 3-4 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy.
Using a slotted spoon, remove the pakoras from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain the excess oil.
Serve hot with chutney or ketchup on the side.
Pakoras are a tasty and easy-to-make snack that is sure to please. They can be made with a variety of different vegetables, so feel free to experiment and find your favorite combination. Enjoy!
